（2）The boys dug pits and baited them so that they could spear their prey.
男孩子们挖了陷阱，在里面放上诱饵，以便用矛刺杀猎物。
2）in order that以便……，为了……
（1）All those concerned must work together in order that agreement can be reached on this issue.
一切有关人员必须通力合作，以便能在这个问题上达成协议。
（2）The cyber cafe also offers free beverages in order that people don’t have to leave when they are thirsty.
为了人们口渴时不用离开，网咖还提供免费的饮料。
3）for fear that以免……
（1）The publication of official statistics was curtailed, for fear that it would encourage civil servants to meddle.
官方统计报告被削减，以免其鼓励公务员插手。
（2）He goes home early everyday for fear that his wife would be angry.
他每天很早就回家，以免老婆生气。
4）lest以免……
（1）They should be quick to respond to letters from readers, lest misinformation concerning animal rights go unchallenged and acquire a deceptive appearance of truth.
他们应该迅速回复读者的来信，以免有关动物权利的错误信息不受质疑，披上真理的骗人外衣。
（2）Senators and representatives use private elevators, lest they have to queue with their constituents.

5）on purpose that目的是……
（1）The teacher raised his voice on purpose that the students in the back could hear more clearly.
老师提高声音，目的是后面的同学能够听得更清楚。
（2）She said such things on purpose that I might give up what I should get from her.

2. 一些常用的目的状语的标识词
1）in order to为了……
（1）In order to maximize profit, the firm would seek to maximize output.
为了最大限度地增加利润，这家公司将试图最大限度地增加产量。
（2）Most schools are extremely unwilling to cut down on staff in order to cut costs.
大多数学校都极不愿意为了减少开支而裁员。
2）so as to以便……，为了……
（1）We should learn a lesson from our mistakes so as to be a better person in the future.
我们要从错误中吸取教训，以便在将来成为更好的人。
（2）It was virtually impossible to synchronize our lives so as to take vacations and weekends together.
为了一起度假和过周末而要让我们的生活同步几乎是不可能的。
3）for the sake of为了……
（1）Our schools are where we send our children to get a practical education—not to pursue knowledge for the sake of knowledge.
我们把孩子送到学校也只不过是为了（让他们）接受实用教育——而并非为了知识而追求知识。
（2）Don’t do something for the sake of doing it, do it because you want to.
不要为了做某事而做，要因为你想做它才做。
4）for the purpose of为了……
（1）They must cut down their expenditure for the purpose of making up the deficit.
为了弥补赤字，他们必须消减开支。
（2）For the purpose of this exercise, the default workspace is acceptable.
为了练习的目的，可以使用默认的工作空间。
5）with the aim of为了……
（1）A science summer camp will be held next month with the aim of encouraging more students to throw themselves into scientific research.
为了鼓励更多的学生投身科学研究，下个月将举行一个科学夏令营。
（2）She went to London last year with the aim of finding a job.
她去年去伦敦是为了找工作。
